EWSETA, South Africa

The Energy and Water Services Sector Education and Training Authority (EWSETA) is a skills development authority serving the energy and water sectors in South Africa. Part of the EWSETA’s mandate is to see to the successful implementation of the systematics of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) within the sector. In 2012 the board of the EWSETA decided to realize a pilot on RPL in the water sector.

PiCompany South Africa was contracted in 2014 to run a project for capacitating EWSETA in developing RPL expertise practitioners in the water sector based on both international and local practices. The nature of the project is that training was provided for 45 RPL advisors and assessors on how to execute RPL procedures and assessments. The project also assisted the EWSETA in reviewing its RPL policy as well as other ETQA policies that involve RPL to make the processes more manageable and adherent to SAQA and international guidelines.

The programme was prepared and implemented in cooperation with CL3S and DdVMensenwerk in a kick-off meeting and raising awareness campaign and two training weeks with intervals for reflection and preparation.

Attached is the report CL3S produced for providing the building-blocks for enhancing such a sector-based approach towards RPL-steered learning strategies.
